The Japan Meteorological Agency's surveillance cameras (JMA) observed vulcanian-type explosion at 11:44 local time today. A plume of ash rose to an altitude of 6,900 ft (2,100 m).
Near-constant glow in the Ontake crater suggests that the flux of magma is rising within the edifice.
Explosions continue to generate pyroclastic bombs and blocks that are ejected up to 800 meters away from the crater towards NW.
The warning bulletin states that ballistic impacts of volcanic bombs could affect an area of about 2 km distance from the main crater.
