The volcano observatory Pusat Vulkanologi dan Mitigasi Bencana Geologi (PVMBG) reported that an elevated fumarolic activity has been recorded within the Kawah Ratu today.
The activity is accompanied by emissions of steam-laden plumes which reached approx. 100 meters above the fumarolic vents resulting in volcanic gas reaching the shallow hydrothermal system. This may indicate elevated fluid movements of gas, water and possibly magma under the surface.
Earthquakes had been more frequent at shallow levels during 1 Jan-11 Feb. RSAM (Real-time Seismic Amplitude Measurement) measurements continue at fluctuating levels. No significant ground deformation was detected.
The alert level for the volcano remains at Level 1.
The warning bulletin states that sudden phreatic explosion could occur, therefore people are advised to avoid Kawah Ratu and craters at Tangkubanparahu volcano.
