Ubinas volcano (Peru): increased seismic activity

IGP reported that the seismic activity of the volcano increased during the past week.

The seismic station records 56 volcano-tectonic earthquakes associated with rock fracturing within the volcano with magnitude below M 1.7.
Additionally, 8 volcano-tectonic earthquakes per day at regular intervals were detected.
There is no signs of flux of magma rising within the volcano.
Surveillance cameras observed emissions of gases and water vapor that rose 984 ft (300 m) above the summit. The plumes were dispersed towards the southeast direction.
There is a 3 km exclusion zone around the main crater in place.

IGP reported that the warning system at the volcano detected the decrease of a lahar (volcanic mud flow) of a low volume that traveled downslope in SE direction through the Volcanmayo ravine due to the streams that run through this sector. IGP reported that the seismic station records internal tremor associated with the descent of a lahar (mud flows) of a moderate volume. The lahar which formed traveled down the SE flank of the volcano along the Volcanmayo gorge at the approx. distance of 2 km from the Ubinas town. ... читать все
