A magnitude 4.7 earthquake near Labuan, Kabupaten Pandeglang, Banten, Indonesia, was reported only 11 minutes ago by Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency, considered the main national agency that monitors seismic activity in Indonesia. The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 10 km beneath the epicenter in the morning on Sunday 23 May 2021 at 11:33 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.7 as well.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Labuan (pop. 33,600) located 39 km from the epicenter, and Pandeglang (pop. 92,300) 70 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Rangkasbitung (pop. 126,900) located 84 km from the epicenter, Serang (pop. 164,800) 85 km away, Kresek (pop. 110,200) 106 km away, and Cikupa (pop. 174,000) 115 km away.

VolcanoDiscovery will automatically update magnitude and depth if these change and follow up if other significant news about the quake become available.
