Moderate earthquake of magnitude 4.0 just reported 13 km northeast of Shingū, Japan

A magnitude 4.0 earthquake near Shingū, Shingū-shi, Wakayama, Japan, was reported only 13 minutes ago by Japan's National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience (NIED), considered the main national agency that monitors seismic activity in this part of the world. The earthquake occurred at a great depth of 422.3 km beneath the epicenter early evening on Thursday 29 July 2021 at 7:05 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Shingū (pop. 31,600, 13 km away), Owase (pop. 22,000, 30 km away), Tanabe (pop. 69,600, 62 km away), Gojō (pop. 34,300, 64 km away), Hashimoto (pop. 57,100, 65 km away), Nabari (pop. 88,100, 86 km away), and Ise (pop. 97,300, 94 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
