Sakar volcano (Papua New Guinea) - Smithsonian / USGS Weekly Volcanic Activity Report for 16 September-22 September 2009 (New Activity / Unrest)
Based on analyses of satellite imagery, the Darwin VAAC reported that on 18 September a possible diffuse ash plume from Sakar rose to an altitude of 1.8 km (6,000 ft) a.s.l. and drifted 165 km NW. Four hours later images showed that the volcano was clear; the plume may have been smoke from a fire or steam.
