Sakurajima volcano (Kyushu, Japan): two explosions today

Explosive eruption of the volcano continues at moderate levels.

One smaller and one moderate explosion occurred at 05:10 and 12:27 local time today. An ash plumes reached 8,000 ft (2,438 m) and 9,000 ft (2,743 m) altitude and drifted NE and NW, respectively.
The plumes contain small amount of sulfur dioxide (SO2) emissions.
A flux of magma still continues to rise inside the volcano's conduits.
The seismic station records 11 volcano-tectonic earthquakes.
The warning bulletin states that ballistic impacts of volcanic bombs and pyroclastic flows could affect an area of about 2 km distance from the main crater.
