Eruption at Sakurajima volcano on 3 October (image: JMA)
Explosive eruption of the volcano continues at fluctuating intensity characterized by sporadic ash explosions.
On 3 October at 16:35 local time the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) recorded a moderate vulcanian-type explosion which reached approx. 10,000 ft (3,048 m)
The warning bulletin states that ballistic impacts of volcanic bombs and pyroclastic flows could affect an area of about 2 km distance from the main crater.
