Sakurajima volcano (Kyushu, Japan): weekly volcanic activity report 29 Jan-3 Feb 2020

The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) recorded at the Minamidake summit crater 21 eruptions and 10 explosions detected by the seismic network and 79 volcanic earthquakes and 114 tremors associated with the eruptions during the period 29 Jan-3 Feb 2020. Blocks were ejected as far as 1 km away from Showa crater.
An ash plume rose 7,217 ft (2,200 m) above the summit crater.
Sulfur dioxide (SO2) emissions reached to a 4700 tonnes/day.
The warning bulletin states that ballistic impacts of volcanic bombs and pyroclastic flows could affect an area of about 2 km distance from the crater.
