Seismic and degassing activity at the volcano decreased during the past days at bit, but remain elevated. The gas plume reached 100 m above the crater and drifted S-SW yesterday. read all

Warning signs of a possible new eruption of the volcano in the near future are becoming increasingly alarming. Accompanied by an ongoing earthquake swarm, tremor (as an indicator of internal pressure) continues to climb. A small ash explosion occurred yesterday afternoon at the volcano, at 16:44 (local time). It only lasted about 10 minutes and produced a small ash plume rising approx. 500 m. It is the first eruptive activity since the larger explosion on 29 Dec past year, and is likely only a precursor of more violent activity to come. read all

The volcano has not erupted again, but shows increased signs of unrest. Since late January, the volcano's seismic activity has been rising significantly. MARN detected a swarms of earthquakes at very shallow 1 km depth beneath the SW flank, while a smaller number of quakes occured at approx. 6 km depth beneath the summit of the volcano. read all
