The volcano is confirmed to be in a new eruptive period following earlier minor ash emissions. Explosive activity is occurring at the summit crater, and the Ñuñurcu lava dome on the upper east flank (last active 2017) is producing a lava flow which sometimes collapses causing pyroclastic flows.
