A white sustained gas and steam plume rises 600 m above the lava dome. There have been some weak and few moderate explosions, spewing columns of gray ash to 400 and 700 meters height, spreading west of the volcano until dissipating at about 12 km distance.
It has been observed that the continuous lava extrusion from the summit of the dome produces 4 lava flows. Two of them to the northwest and southeast are filling the Nima I river canyon, which generates hot lahars in this river valley.

Ash explosion from Santiaguito early on 22 Aug 2012
Activity seems to continue with no major changes. INSIVUMEH has not published reports during the past days due to bad weather, but the seismic signal and webcam suggest that intermittent weak to moderate explosions and block avalanches from the active lava flows on the steep sides of the dome continue. ... read all
