Santa Maria volcano (Guatemala) - Smithsonian / USGS Weekly Volcanic Activity Report for 22 April-28 April 2020 (Continuing Activity)
INSIVUMEH reported that explosions at Santa María's Santiaguito lava-dome complex generated ash plumes that rose 800-900 m above the crater and drifted as far as 1.2 km NW, W, and SW. Avalanches of blocks descended the S, SE, and E flanks of Caliente cone. Ashfall was recorded in areas downwind including Loma Linda, San Marcos Palajunoj, and La Florida and Santa Marta fincas.

INSIVUMEH report continued degassing plume expulsion reaching heights of around 3300 m.a.s.l. that drifted southwest over the villages of Loma Linda and San Marcos Palajunoj. The STG3 seismic station recorded mostly weak explosions, where some generated airplane turbine sounds.
