Volcano news: Santa Maria (Guatemala)
Mon, 28 Apr 2014, 15:03Activity remains relatively low and unchanged. Occasional explosions from the lava dome produce small ash plumes generally lower than 1 km. Only few avalanches were reported lately, suggesting that effusion rate has dropped.

No significant changes in the currently relatively low activity have been reported. Occasional small to moderate explosions and weak avalanches from the active lava flow on the SE side of the dome occurred during 16-17 April.
Thu, 10 Apr 2014, 16:47Activity has not changed much over the past weeks. The observatory reports moderate explosions ejecting gray ash plumes rising up to about 800 m and causing light ash falls in areas to the west of the lava dome.

Activity remains essentially unchanged. Viscous lava flows are active on the E and SW sides of the Caliente dome. Read more...

Mon, 24 Feb 2014, 16:39Activity at the volcano remains similar to the previous weeks. Effusion of lava keeps the flows at the eastern and southeastern sides of the Caliente dome active, where avalanches occur. No explosions were reported by the observatory this morning.

Thu, 6 Feb 2014, 16:07Activity has shown no to little variations but has decreased a bit overall. The lava dome has currently active flows on the SW and NE flanks and continues to produce small to moderate ash explosions from time to time.
Sun, 26 Jan 2014, 11:27
Activity has remained essentially unchanged. The lava dome produces intermittent weak to moderate explosions (with ash plumes up to 500-700 m height) and abundant avalanches at the active block lava flow fronts, especially on the eastern and southeastern side of the dome. Collapses at these fronts can produce small pyroclastic flows.
