Explosive activity at the Caliente dome has picked up. Explosions with ash plumes rising several hundred meters have become more frequent. The lava flow on the eastern side remains active, according the the observatory's latest report.

Activity remains relatively low. A moderate explosion occurred this morning, producing an ash plume that rose 700 m. Weak to moderate avalanches were seen originating from the Caliente dome's eastern flank.

The recently active, viscous lava flow on the southeastern side of the dome might have stopped being alimented, a recent satellite image suggests, showing that the lava flow has not advanced recently, although is still hot. INSIVUMEH no longer reports observed movements at the flow fronts. Read more...

Steam rising from the lava flow from Santiaguito lava dome yesterday
The volcano continues to feed an active lava flow that passes through a ravine on the SE side of the dome. Its length has reached approx. 3 km, which implies it has been making approx. 30 meters progress per day during the past month. Read more...
