Santa María / Santiaguito volcano (Guatemala) activity update

After several days of relatively weak activity, an increase in lava effusion has been observed. INSIVUMEH reports that the lava flows descending from the dome on the S, SE and NE side are advancing 5-7 meters per day. The SE flow enters the gulley of rio Nimá I.
In addition, some weak to moderate explosions were reported during yesterday-today.

Effusive activity has apparently increased, as INSIVUMEH reports that the SE and NE lava flows descending from the dome are advancing about 5-7 meters per day. A few explosions with ash plumes rising up to 700 m occurred today. A steam plume is rising 250 m above the lava dome, which shows incandescence at night and continues to feed the lava flows on the SE and NE flanks. ... read all
