The activity has remained unchanged, dominated by slow extrusion and avalanches of blocky lava mainly from the SE and NE flanks of the Caliente dome.
Santiaguito's Caliente lava dome yesterday morning
The volcano observatory mentions occasional weak to moderate explosions with ash plumes rising up to 500 m from the dome and warns of the possibility of pyroclastic flows (generated by collapse of lava flows).

Activity at the volcano remains similar to the previous weeks. Effusion of lava keeps the flows at the eastern and southeastern sides of the Caliente dome active, where avalanches occur. No explosions were reported by the observatory this morning. ... read all

Activity at the volcano has not changed and remains dominantly effusive. Several blocky flows descend from the upper flanks of the Caliente dome, mostly on the E and SW side, generating constant avalanches. Occasional explosions with ash plumes of 500-800 m height occur as well. ... read all

Activity has shown no to little variations but has decreased a bit overall. The lava dome has currently active flows on the SW and NE flanks and continues to produce small to moderate ash explosions from time to time. ... read all

Activity has remained essentially unchanged. The lava dome produces intermittent weak to moderate explosions (with ash plumes up to 500-700 m height) and abundant avalanches at the active block lava flow fronts, especially on the eastern and southeastern side of the dome. Collapses at these fronts can produce small pyroclastic flows. ... read all

Since the morning of 23 Jan, the lava flow front at the SE rim of the Caliente dome has become more active and generated a series of collapses resulting in small pyroclastic flows that reached the base of the dome. ... read all
