After a comparably calm year at the volcano, activity seems to have picked up again lately.
Current seismic signal from Santiaguito volcano (STG station, INSIVUMEH)
The volcano observatory reported that near-constant weak to moderate rock avalanches have been occurring from the Caliente lava dome on its SE and NE sides. This indicates that fresh magma is currently being supplied to the dome.
Seismic stations recorded 18 small explosions during a 24 hours period with ash plumes rising a few hundred meters. Weak ash fall occurred in nearby areas such as the finca San José Patzulin.
