Santorini volcano eruptions:
1613 BC +-7 years (the so-called "Minoan eruption", one of the largest plinian eruptions during the past 10,000 years on earth)
historic eruptions: 197 BC, 46/47 AD, 726, 1570-1573, 1707-1711, 1866-1870, 1925-1928, 1939-1941, 1950
Typical eruption style:Dominantly explosive, with effusive activity during intervals. Powerful explosive, so-called Plinian eruptions appear to occur every 10-30,000 years. Construction of lava shields and minor to irregularly spaced subplinian explosive activity during interval times.

The historic volcano of Methana
The VolcanoDiscovery presentation of the 4 Greek volcanoes at the German volcanological museum Lava-Dome in Mendig/Germany on Oktober 29th was successful. Tobias Schorr introduced the public to the unknown Greek volcanoes and their geological and cultural history. Milos as the beginning of the first industrial mining in Greek history was the start. He explained how the mining of obsidian was important for prehistoric people and how the tools were used and exported from Milos to other Greek islands. The Minoan eruption of Santorini´s volcano and its impact in prehistoric culture was one of the most interesting facts in his presentation. The public also loved his photos from Methana volcanic peninsula and his presentation of some rock samples after the show. The next presentation will take place in the VHS-Remagen/Germany on 25 November.
