Santorini volcano eruptions:
1613 BC +-7 years (the so-called "Minoan eruption", one of the largest plinian eruptions during the past 10,000 years on earth)
historic eruptions: 197 BC, 46/47 AD, 726, 1570-1573, 1707-1711, 1866-1870, 1925-1928, 1939-1941, 1950
Typical eruption style:
Dominantly explosive, with effusive activity during intervals. Powerful explosive, so-called Plinian eruptions appear to occur every 10-30,000 years. Construction of lava shields and minor to irregularly spaced subplinian explosive activity during interval times.

Seismicity between 28 Sep - 27 Dec 2011
The number of earthquakes beneath Santorini volcano remains at slightly elevated levels. The activity is concentrated along the volcano-tectonic SW-NE alignment passing through the submarine volcano Kolumbo 8 km to the NE of the island and the center of the caldera where most volcanic vents in the past hundreds of thousands years of activity at Santorini were located.
At 19h22 GMT (21h22 local time), a 3.2 earthquake occurred at the little-known submarine volcano Kolumbos ca. 8 km NE of Santorini, Island, Greece. This marks one of the largest events in recent months. ... read all

There are signs of a possible awakening of the Santorini volcano: During the past weeks, an increased number of small earthquakes has been occurring beneath and near Santorini. The quakes (most of them below magnitude 3) are concentrated beneath the center of the caldera and in a broad SW-NE zone crossing Santorini corresponding to the active volcanic trend of the island group. ... read all
We are proud to announce a scientific discovery that has been made in close connection to one of our past tours on Santorini: A new absolute date for the great Minoan eruption on Santorini volcano has been published yesterday in the issue of Science Magazine (28 April, 2006). It confirms an early date for the eruption putting it at 1627-1600 BC with very good confidence. ... read all

1-3 day excursions
: If you're interested in volcanoes, there are a number of excursions you should not miss if you're in the area: hike to the craters of Stromboli volcano, climb Etna volcano, get to know the unique volcanic history of Santorini - some examples of shorter (1-3 days) tours and excursions we offer.
Monthy earthquake reports
: For each month since July 2012, we publish a summary of quake activity world-wide: find the list of largest quake, a map showing all significant quakes as well as detailed statistics on seismic activity during this time.
Latest quakes in Greece
: Greece has a lot of earthquake activity, but most of them occur around the margin of the Aegean microplate. The Cycladic islands are located in its center and therefore seismically comparably quiet.
Bromo volcano photos
: Bromo is one of Indonesia's most visited volcanoes. It is the most active vent inside the huge Tengger caldera and erupts every few years.
