A satellite image from 6 February shows a fresh ash deposits visible on the snow cover likely generated by a small explosion in the last week as the Alaska Volcano Observatory (AVO) reported. The ash plume from North Cerebus Crater extended about 3 km to the north of the volcano. The height of the ash plume is unknown and was not reported. Visibility into the crater was very limited due to steam emissions.
The observation of the new deposits could be a sign of resumption of activity and the volcano observatory increased the Aviation Color Code to YELLOW and the Volcano Alert Level to ADVISORY.
