Semisopochnoi volcano (Aleutian Islands): Volcanic Alert Level raised to Orange

A seismic crisis, typical sign of magma pushing its way towards the surface, has been detected at 12:00 local time today.

The ongoing volcanic tremor is still continuing at the time of this update
Elevated ash emissions were visible in a satellite imagery that began to vent at around 13:00 local time to an altitude of 5,000 ft (1,500 m).
A satellite image from 11 July confirmed a robust steam plume containing sulfur dioxide (SO2) emissions that extended to the northeast of the volcano.
Based on the elevated activity, the Alaska Volcano Observatory (AVO) decided to increase the alert level for the volcano to "orange".
