Shishaldin volcano (Aleutian Islands, Alaska): weakly elevated surface temperatures

The Alaska Volcano Observatory (AVO) reported that unrest continues at the volcano. Seismicity remained elevated including periods of weak continuous tremor and occasional low-frequency earthquakes.
Elevated surface temperatures in the summit crater were measured in mostly cloudy satellite images over the past day.
Eruptive activity appears confined to the summit area during this most recent period of unrest, which started mid-March.
Activity could increase with little or no warning, however, resulting in lava flows outside of the crater, lahars, and ash emissions.

Shishaldin volcano on 23 March (image: AVO)
The Alaska Volcano Observatory (AVO) reported that seismicity remains elevated with continuous low-level tremor. Satellite and web camera views were mostly obscured by clouds over the past 24 hours, but one relatively clear image showed a small gas plume emanating from the summit of the volcano. Eruptive activity appears confined to the summit area during this most recent period of unrest, which started mid-March. Activity could increase with little or no warning, however, resulting in lava flows and lahars outside of the crater and (or) ash emissions. read all

The Alaskan Volcano Observatory (AVO) report that the eruptive activity continues at Shishaldin volcano. Minor explosive activity has subsided over the past 24 hours, but seismicity remains elevated with near-continuous tremor. A small steam plume from the summit was observed over the past 24 hours. For now, eruptive activity looks as if it is confined to the summit area, but activity could increase with little or no warning resulting in lava flows outside of the crater, lahars, and ash emissions. ... read all

High-resolution satellite image of Shishaldin volcano shows lava (image: Sentinel 2)
The Alaska Volcano Observatory (AVO) reported that a high-resolution satellite image shows lava and what appears to be a new cone within the volcano summit crater. Weak seismic tremor has been detected. ... read all

Shishaldin volcano (image: AVO)
The Alaska Volcano Observatory (AVO) reported that slightly elevated seismicity was detected over the last day. Satellite images indicated steaming and weakly elevated surface temperatures from within the summit vent but no sign of renewed eruptive activity. ... read all

A plume from Shishaldin volcano from satellite yesterday (image: Sentinel 2)
The Alaska Volcano Observatory (AVO) recorded warm surface temperatures in the summit crater identified in satellite data, which is consistent with cooling lava deposits. ... read all
