AVO reported that satellite images of Shishaldin acquired on 28 July showed a small spatter cone with lava flows in the summit crater. During 31 July-6 August continuous weak tremor was recorded by the seismic network and elevated surface temperatures were sometimes visible in satellite images. Shishaldin volcano (Aleutian Islands, Alaska) activity update: Small lava lake deep in summit crater
Recent unrest (seismic tremor, thermal anomalies) has increased and a new, very minor eruption is underway. AVO field crews observed a small lava lake inside the deep funnel-shaped summit crater, but the activity has been contained within the crater so far. This is similar to the last eruption in 2014-15. The alert level has been raised to ORANGE/WATCH. A more substantial eruption is possible (like that of 1999) but there is no indication of this occurring so far. ... Read all
