Seismic activity remains elevated. According to the Alaska Volcano Observatory, "a low-level lava eruption is probably still occurring", although cloud cover prevents visual confirmation by satellite.

Eruptive activity at the volcano continues. Most of the time, it seems to be weak, probably strombolian in nature, but there have been episodes with more intense activity, possibly lava fountaining, evidenced by strong tremor and elevated surface temperatures. ...more

AVO reported that, although cloud cover often obscured views of Shishaldin during 15-21 October, seismicity indicated that a low-level eruption was likely continuing. ...more

Low-level eruptive activity likely continues at the volcano, AVO writes: "Elevated surface temperatures were detected in satellite data from this morning. Sound waves coupling into the ground (ground-coupled air waves) from small explosions as well as small pulses of tremor are occasionally detected in seismic data." (AVO)

Shishaldin volcano's lava lake seen on 10 Aug (image: Cyrus Read / AVO)
The Alaska Volcano Observatory (AVO) released a photo showing a small active lava lake inside the volcano's crater. Previously available satellite imagery was only able to identify a heat source, but not the type of its source, i.e. the activity at the volcano.

MODIS hot spots at Shishaldin (MODVOLC, Univ. Hawaii)
According to the Alaska Volcano Observatory, weak activity continues. MODIS data show elevated surface temperatures in the summit crater, but there are no visual or other indicators of eruptive activity available.
