Shiveluch volcano, Kamchatka: increasing lava dome activity
Tuesday Oct 15, 2013 12:29 PM | BY: T
Glowing avalanche from Shiveluch's lava dome half an hour ago (KVERT webcam)
The lava dome has become more active again, and frequently produces small incandescent avalanches. Strong degassing and occasional ash venting accompany this process. A weak ash plume rose today from the volcano to an altitude of about 12,000 ft, as can be seen on the following video:

KVERT reports that the "growth of the lava dome continues - strong and moderate ash explosions up to 4-6 km a.s.l., fumarolic activity and incandescence of the dome summit, and hot avalanches accompany this process. Satellite data showed a thermal anomaly over the volcano."

Activity continues at moderate levels with little changes. The viscous lava dome remains active and produces occasional small ash explosions and avalanches.
Thursday, Sep 12, 2013
The volcano continues to slowly extrude a new lobe of viscous lava from the dome. This process is accompanied by occasional explosions and ash emissions such as one this morning that produced a plume rising to 19,000 ft (5.8 km) altitude.

KVERT reports no changes in activity, which is currently relatively low. Accompanied by moderate seismic activity, a viscous lava dome continues to grow and produces small incandescent rockfalls and occasional ash emissions such as on the attached webcam picture this morning. Glow can be seen at night. ...
