Small avalanche at Shiveluch volcano this morning generating a small ash plume
Small avalanche at Shiveluch volcano this morning generating a small ash plume
The volcano continues to slowly extrude viscous lava at its dome, which sometimes results in smaller or larger avalanches as well as explosions, both producing ash plumes. Over the past weeks, this activity has been a bit lower than previously.
Previous news
Small pyroclastic flow into the southwestern corridor of the active lava dome of Shiveluch
Monday, Nov 23, 2015
The extrusive activity of viscous lava into the active dome continues with little significant change, but seems to have picked up a bit recently. Incandescent avalanches occur to both the southeast and southwest corridor. ... [more]
The pyroclastic flow (lower right) and ash plume from Shiveluch volcano yesterday morning
Friday, Oct 30, 2015
The volcano's activity seems to have picked up a bit compared to recent weeks. A partial collapse of the active dome generated a pyroclastic flow that traveled several km to the south, accompanied by an ash plume that rose to 4-4.5 km altitude and drifted east. [more]
View of the small pyroclastic flow at Shiveluch
Friday, Oct 23, 2015
A moderately sized pyroclastic flow as result of small collapse of part of the active lava dome occurred this afternoon (Kamchatka time), sending an ash plume to approx. 15,000 ft (4.5 km) altitude. ... [more]
Glowing avalanche at Shiveluch at night
Tuesday, Oct 20, 2015
Activity has not changed significantly over the past weeks. Slow extrusion of viscous lava continues and triggers occasional small to moderate incandescent avalanches, mainly through the eastern corridor of the volcano's horse-shoe shaped landslide caldera where the dome is located. ... [more]
Ash plume from a pyroclastic flow on Shiveluch volcano on 3 Oct 2015
Sunday, Oct 04, 2015
The lava dome continues to grow inside the open summit crater. An explosion and partial collapse occurred in the evening of 3 Oct, producing a pyroclastic flow and associated ash plume that rose to 6.5 km altitude. [more]
