Eruption of Sheveluch volcano this morning (KVERT webcam)
The volcano has increased its (visible) activity during the past days. A larger explosion occurred during the late evening of Thursday 7 Sep (at 21:46 local time), producing an ash plume that rose to estimated 9 km altitude.
During the next day, near-continuous ash emissions occurred from the active dome. Another explosion was recorded this morning, generating a plume of several km height.
Our expedition team in Kamchatka is currently on its way to the volcano; we will be back with first-hand observation shortly.
