Sierra Negra volcano (Galapagos): eruption probably has ended

The eruption that had been going on since late June has significantly decreased or even stopped during Sep. The thermal signal from satellite data suggests that either lava effusion continues at strongly decreased rate or reflects the still hot surface from the significant new lava erupted during June-August.

The first and most energetic phase lasted one day (26 June) and was characterized by the opening of five fissures and lava flows traveling as far as 7 km from the vents.
