The volcano continues to slowly aliment the large viscous lava lobe on the SE flank. Its growth is mainly manifested by numerous small to medium-sized rockfalls from its flanks and front, but also occasional pyroclastic flows that have reappeared since mid April. ...more

A pyroclastic flow occurred yesterday afternoon (17:40 WIB) at the volcano. Most likely, it was triggered by a partial collapse of the steep lava tongue that had been emplaced on its southern flank during the past months. ...more

Evolution of Sinabung volcano's lava extrusion lobe (VSI)
Activity continues at the volcano in form of slow lava extrusion that feeds the thick lobe formed on the southern flank. Overall, the intensity of this activity continued to decrease. Authorities decreased the alert status from the highest (4) to 3 (on a scale of 1-4). ...more

The volcano continues to be active with no significant changes, but an overall decreasing trend. Lava effusion feeds the viscous lava extrusion lobe on its southern flank, which has been mainly growing on its eastern side. ...more

Small rockfall at the lava lobe of Sinabung a few days ago
The eruption continues with no significant changes, but on a progressively decreasing trend. Most activity has been the slow extrusion and gradual enlargement of the lava dome-lobe oozing out from the vent and onto the southern slope. Occasional rockfalls and minor pyroclastic flows occur as well. ...more

Pyroclastic flow at Sinabung yesterday afternoon
The eruption of the volcano continues with little changes. During the past 2 days (see video below), there have been a number of smaller and occasional medium-sized explosions/dome collapse events that produced pyroclastic flows that reach up to 2-3 km length (at 13:50 yesterday and 07:50 this morning (local times). ...more

Ash plume of the deadly pyroclastic flow on the SE flank this morning
Sad news today: the volcano claimed its first victims this morning due to a direct effect of the eruption. At least 14 people were reported killed and 3 others severely bunt by one or two moderately large pyroclastic flows this morning. 3 more people are still reported missing. ...more
