After a few weeks of relatively low activity, the volcano has been more active recently. Since this morning, a small lava flow is active on the upper Sciara del Fuoco.
Similar as many other such flows in the past years, it originates from the northeastern-most vent (towards the side of Stromboli village) and could herald a phase of increased activity in the coming days or weeks. In the last few days, carbon dioxide emissions have increased, which is an indication of new magma arriving at depth. The activity index level of the volcano had risen from "Low" to "Medium" at the beginning of November already.
