Volcano Calendar 2018: We're proud to present our 2018 volcano calendar: 13 different and attractive images of volcanoes, volcanic landscapes and phenomena taken during volcano tours over the past few years.
The Volcano Adventure Guide: Excellent information and background for anyone wishing to visit active volcanoes safely and enjoyably. The book presents guidelines to visiting 42 different volcanoes around the world.
Climbing Stromboli volcano: Stromboli provides one of the most remarkable opportunities to watch volcanic eruptions from close: a natural ridge located 150 m above the active vents. A classic and all-time favorite tour by anyone interested in seeing active volcanoes!
Stromboli, a small island north of Sicily, is one of the most active volcanoes in the world and famous for its normally small, but regular explosions throwing out glowing lava from several vents inside its summit crater. This activity has been going on for at least 2000 years, as long as there is written memory of the activity, which Stromboli lended its name to, the so-called strombolian activity.

Stromboli volcano (Eolian Islands, Italy) field report: mild strombolian activity

Moderately strong explosion from Stromboli's northern vent in the eastern crater section on the evening of 22 Oct 2017
When observed yesterday evening during our ongoing tour to Italy's volcanoes, activity at the crater of the volcano was at low to moderate levels. Compared to June-July, the activity of the volcano had decreased a lot during the past months, but the configuration remained essentially the same.
We observed 4 active vents: the westernmost vent with sporadic (30-40 mins interval) mild eruptions rich in ash and only few incandescent bombs, the central vent with constant glow showing pulsating degassing (but no visible spattering), and the two large vents of the eastern crater.
Out of the latter, the northern one, forming a circular crater of approx. 20 m diameter, was the most active, with typical strombolian type eruptions every 5-20 minutes, reaching ejection heights of 50-100 m typically, but sometimes surpassing 150 m. The easternmost vent next to this one only erupted occasionally, at intervals of 20-60 minutes, ejecting incandescent scoria to 50-100 m.
During the first part of June, activity at Stromboli volcano was one of the most intense periods during several years. At most times, up to 6 or 7 vents were active, most notably the two eastern vents, closely followed and sometimes surpassed by the two western vents. ... [more]
When observed yesterday, the activity of the volcano seemed to have decreased a bit compared to earlier in the week, although explosions continued to occur very frequently, at rates of one every few minutes, mainly from the eastern and western vents. ... [more]
The activity of the volcano remains at moderate to high levels. Compared to the update a few days ago, activity at the eastern vents (N1, N2) has decreased a bit, but instead increased significantly from the westernmost vent (S1). ... [more]
Fuego volcano photos: One of Central America's most active volcanoes, Fuego in Guatemala is in near-permanent explosive eruption with intermittent phases of increasing activity that generate lava fountains, lava flows and pyroclastic flows.
Volcano Special Tours: We organize tours to particularly active volcanoes and during ongoing eruptions for extended observation time from various viewpoints. These trips, exclusively for very small groups, are often announced only at short notice and require fast travel and flexibility. Each trip is accompanied by a volcanologist from our team. Examples include: Kilauea (Hawai'i), Colima (Mexico), Krakatau and many others.
