Stromboli volcano (Italy): activity increases dramatically

Stromboli in violent eruption this evening (image: Vulcano a Piedi webcam)
The volcano has already been in an elevated state of activity for several days, and an official warning had been issued a week ago. In addition, the summit area has been closed to the public due to increased risk.
It is obvious that currently, the magma column inside the conduits stands high, ready perhaps to produce an overflow in the near future!
