Stromboli volcano (Italy) activity update: continuing explosions and active lava flows in upper half of the Sciara del Fuoco

The corresponding lava flows in the southern and central parts of the Sciara del Fuoco reach a few 100 m to a maximum of about half way down the slope of the Sciara, but generate abundant incandescent rockfalls from collapsing lava pieces of the flow fronts. Small hot deltas have thus formed at the shoreline.

A lava flow is active on the western Sciara del Fuoco and according www.weathersicily.it reached the sea yesterday evening. However, as of today, while it is still active, its effusion rate seems to have decreased and probably no longer reaches the shore. read all
