Stromboli volcano
stratovolcano 926 m
Eolian Islands, Italy, 38.79°N / 15.21°E
Current status: erupting (4 out of 5) Stromboli volcano eruptions:
Persistant (near-constant) activity since at least 2-3000 years. Most recent effusive (lava flow) eruptions from Dec. 2002-July 2003, March 2007, Aug-Oct 2014. Paroxysm 3 July 2019
Typical eruption style:
Small explosive (strombolian) eruptions, typically every 20-30 mins. Intermittently, ca. every 2-20 years, minor effusive eruptions (lava flows); on average 2-5 times per year larger explosions.

Frequent and often strong strombolian activity continues, mainly from the Center-South and North crater areas on the crater terrace, as well as small lava overflows from the (collapsed) SW and NE rims of the terrace.
The corresponding lava flows in the southern and central parts of the Sciara del Fuoco reach a few 100 m to a maximum of about half way down the slope of the Sciara, but generate abundant incandescent rockfalls from collapsing lava pieces of the flow fronts. Small hot deltas have thus formed at the shoreline.
Time-lapse showing the activity during the last night, showing the varying activity of the two lava flows. Note that the lava flow from the SW crater area is mostly hidden from view behind a ridge, while the one from the northern crater area is in foreground:

Volcanic activity level of the volcano remains "very high" (LGS).
