Stromboli volcano (Italy): activity continues to fluctuate between moderate and high levels

The activity of the volcano continues at moderate to high levels with little changes during the past weeks.

Frequent strombolian explosions occur from multiple vents in the crater area. On 3 Feb 2020 morning, a short-lived lava overflow from the vents in the northeastern crater area produced a small lava flow on the upper Sicara del Fuoco.
For now and the foreseeable future, the summit area of the volcano remains closed for visitors.
