Series of strong explosive eruptions are now in progress at the volcano's Ontake summit crater over the past few days.

Increasingly tall and dense ash plumes rose to estimated 10,000 ft (3,000 m) and extended west of the volcano.
Explosions continue to generate pyroclastic bombs and blocks that are ejected up to 400 meters away from the crater towards NW.
Near-constant glow in the Ontake crater suggests that the flux of magma is rising within the edifice.
The warning bulletin states that ballistic impacts of volcanic bombs could affect an area of about 2 km distance from the main crater.
