Tolbachik volcano (Kamchatka): alert level lowered to green

Sunday Feb 02, 2014 11:45 AM | BY: T

On 31 Jan, KVERT finally lowered the Aviation Color Code of the volcano back to green, as the volcano has been calm for a while and shows no more signs of unrest that new activity could be likely in the near future.
At the moment, "only" 3 volcanoes in Kamchatka are at elevated status: Shiveluch (active growing lava dome) and Karymsky (strombolian-vulcanian explosions) at orange, and Bezymianny (possible weak lava extrusion) at yellow.

Although no new eruptive activity has been recorded in the past months, the volcano continues to be at Aviation Color Code yellow. Moderate seismic activity of the volcano continues. Satellite data showed a weak thermal anomaly over the northern area of Tolbachinsky Dol. (KVERT) [more]

Tuesday, Oct 01, 2013
No seismic or surface eruptive activity has been recorded recently. The eruption can probably by now be regarded to be over, but KVERT maintains Aviation Color Code yellow. [more]
Friday, Sep 06, 2013
The eruption is probably ending. KVERT reported only weak seismicity and incandescence, accompanied by moderate steaming/degassing, and a small remaining thermal anomaly on satellite data. [more]

Monday, Sep 02, 2013
Although believed to have more or less stopped a week ago, it seems that weak eruptive has continued and regained some strength again now. Weak tremor has reappeared and incandescence could be seen again at the active vent at Tolbachinsky Dol at night. Tourists could observe strombolian activity and effusion of lava into the tube system on 30 August. [more]
