No significant surface activity has been noted. Seismic activity has decreased overall during the past days, although IGPEN still records some long period earthquakes, that relate to internal fluid movements.

The volcano's seismic activity remains stable, but elevated with the occurrence of numerous long period events related to fluid movement within the edifice. Bad weather prevented direct observation of surface activity.

Seismic signal from Tungurahua last night (RETU station, IG)
A steam column rose about 100 m during the afternoon of 31 Jan. Seismic activity remains at moderate levels, with a tendency of a slow increase. During 1 Feb, IG counted 40 long-period and one volcanic-tectonic quake.

Numerous small volcanic earthquakes and continuous weak tremor are being recorded and there seems to be a slow increase over time as a sign that the volcano could erupt again soon. IGPEN characterizes the level of activity as "moderate".

Internal unrest continues in the form of moderate seismic activity including numerous long period events (72 during 26-28 Jan) and tremor pulses (3). Probable gas and steam emissions could not be observed due to cloud cover.

The volcano remains calm with only few tiny earthquakes visible. Lahars generated by rain remobilizing loose deposits remain a major hazard inside drainages around the volcano.

Activity has remained low. Small earthquakes and weak tremor continue to be recorded with an increase visible on the most recent seismogram.
