Ash eruption at Tungurahua volcano this evening
Explosion this morning (yesterday in Ecuador)
Activity continues at the volcano. Several relatively strong ash emissions occurred during the past 12 hours, producing ash plumes rising 2-3 km above the volcano to estimated 26,000 ft (8 km) altitude and drifting SE:
The volcano observatory reports frequent small explosions and visible incandescent material.
Thursday, Jan 30, 2014
A new eruptive phase has begun at the volcano. Since the early morning today, the seismic network detected an increase in earthquakes including signals of small explosions and long-period events and tremor typical for internal fluid movements (gasses and magma). ...
Sunday, Nov 03, 2013
Activity is at moderate levels, characterized by relatively infrequent and small ash explosions. ...
Saturday, Oct 19, 2013
The eruptive phase that had started on 6 Oct, after a quiet interval of 3 months, continues to increase. The volcano observatory reports ash columns rising up to 3 km above the crater and the first occurrence (so far) small pyroclastic flows. ...
Thursday, Oct 17, 2013
Activity has been constant and slowly increasing. Strombolian explosions produce a column of gas and ash rising about 1 km, mostly driting west and north. Light ash fall has been reported from Penipe and Choglontus, and to the north, in Runtún. Near the volcano, constant rumbling is heard.
Tuesday, Oct 15, 2013
IGPEN reports no significant changes in the ongoing eruption, dominated by strombolian activity. Glowing blocks were seen rolling down for 1 km from the crater and there were sporadic cannon-shot explosions. A steam and ash plume rose to up to approx. 2 km height above the crater and caused ash fall in the areas of Mocha, Quero, Tisaleo and (a bit) in Mandur.
