An SO2 plume can be seen from Turrialba volcano on yesterday's NOOA image, suggesting increased activity.

A nocturnal visit to the West Crater of Turrialba volcano on 2 February by volcanologists from OVSICORI-UNA revealed several incandescent spots: The SW vent (Boca 2010), N vent (Boca 2011) and the SE vent (Boca 2012) show differential gas and vapor outputs, while showing different incandescence levels. The latter one (opened on January 12th ) registers temperatures above 700ºC. ...

A new small ash eruption occurred today (19 Jan 2012), recorded along with an increase in seismicity. The eruption lasted about 20 minutes.
