Ubinas volcano (Peru): increased seismic activity

The seismic station records 56 volcano-tectonic earthquakes associated with rock fracturing within the volcano with magnitude below M 1.7.
Additionally, 8 volcano-tectonic earthquakes per day at regular intervals were detected.
There is no signs of flux of magma rising within the volcano.
Surveillance cameras observed emissions of gases and water vapor that rose 984 ft (300 m) above the summit. The plumes were dispersed towards the southeast direction.
There is a 3 km exclusion zone around the main crater in place.

During 11-18 May the number of seismic events at Ubinas totaled 54 with volcano-tectonic (VT) signals being the most numerous. IGP reported that the warning system at the volcano detected the decrease of a lahar (volcanic mud flow) of a low volume that traveled downslope in SE direction through the Volcanmayo ravine due to the streams that run through this sector.
