Since the last update, Gaua volcano continues to show volcanic unrest and remains at Volcanic Alert Level 2. Volcanic hazards include volcanic gases remain on the Gaua volcanic cone where the ‘danger zone’ is located according to the Vanuatu Meteorology and Geohazards Department.

The Wellington VAAC reported on 29 April that a Qantas Airline pilot noticed a possible ash plume from Gaua volcano. read all

Activity at Gaua volcano on Vanuatu remains low. The Vanuatu Meteorological and Geohazards Department reports that the volcano is now emitting less gas, and vegetation near the vent and in the direction of the trade winds on the western side of the island which were burnt by acid rains are now growing again. ... read all

The eruption of Gaua volcano (located in the far north end of the archipel of Vanuatu) is increasing and the situation is worsening for the inhabitants of the island, news articles report. As plumes reach 10,000 ft (3000m) elevation and the fresh ash contaminates water and food supplies on the island, promting authorities to prepare for an evacuation of about 3000 people from the island if the situation continues or gets worse. ... read all
