Gaua volcano (Banks Islands, Vanuatu) - Smithsonian / USGS Weekly Volcanic Activity Report for 26 October-1 November 2011 (New Activity / Unrest)
Based on a hazards assessment during 17-18 October, the Vanuatu Geohazards Observatory reported that Gaua had been emitting ash since September. Ash fell on western parts of the island. The Alert Level remained at 1 (on a scale of 0-4).

Vanuatu Geohazards Observatory reported that the seismic network monitoring Gaua detected volcanic activity in August. Gas plumes were detected by the OMI satellite on 17, 27, and 28 September, and ashfall was reported in the N, E, and W parts of Gaua on 10 October by local authorities. Activity at Gaua volcano on Vanuatu remains low. The Vanuatu Meteorological and Geohazards Department reports that the volcano is now emitting less gas, and vegetation near the vent and in the direction of the trade winds on the western side of the island which were burnt by acid rains are now growing again. ...
