The best place to stay on Tanna is the White Grass Ocean Resort, who also organize one-day trips to Yasur volcano. If you prefer to stay near the volcano itself, there are many cozy bungalows and home stays in the area.
We personally prefer Kelson's Jungle Oasis which is probably closest to the volcano and has a direct view of the volcano (if you are lucky to get the spectacular tree house), but there are many other good choices as well:Booking.com

Strombolian activity at the volcano has been very strong recently. Lava bombs often fall onto the outer crater rim or beyond, making it extremely dangerous to stay in that area.
This video posted on youtube a few days ago (youtube.com/watch?v=XWeCuIC2zyw) shows a near-miss of a tourist filming on the crater rim when a strong explosion occurred, obscuring the view with ash and thousands of projectiles and a large (1 m across) bomb landed just two meters next to him...
Extreme caution is required when visiting Yasur volcano!

Today's Terra satellite image of Tanna Island, showing a gas plume with possible ash content from Yasur
Sunday, Aug 14, 2016
Wellington VAAC reports ash plumes, mostly confined to Tanna Island, visible on satellite imagery today. This suggests that activity at the volcano is elevated at the moment. It is urrently at GeoHazard's level 2, on a scale of 0-5 (5 being highest), meaning that "volcanic explosions remain intense, volcanic bombs may fall in and/or around the crater and volcanic gas and ashes can also affect some villages." ... Webcam shot from Yasur showing bomb landing near car park
Tuesday, Sep 10, 2013
The volcano continues to produce very rhythmic and often intense strombolian explosions. Sometimes (see the following time-lapse video), bombs are ejected to the outer slope and land in or near the car-park area, where extreme caution should be applied. Geohazard maintains status level 2. ... [more]
