No man-made fireworks can compete with the beauty and power of the true fire of the volcano god.
With this compilation of near-continuous strombolian explosions and lava fountaining from Anak Krakatau volcano in Nov 2018, we wish everybody a Happy New Year 2019.
The place on the beach where our group spent an unforgettable night watching the volcano in front of us erupt maybe no longer exists.
Had we been there 5 weeks later, we probably would all have died: soon after, the cone shown here erupting collapsed and devastated the area with a tsunami on 22 Dec 2018, a reminder how fragile the world is, and how close life and death, beauty and destruction can be together.
