Another unexciting week in terms of volcanic activity has passed.
As usual, the new Smithsonian / USGS Weekly Volcanic Activity Report was published today and is summarized as follows:

Cleveland (Aleutians): occasional explosions, summit lava dome destroyed
Fuego (Guatemala): frequent explosions with incandescent lava rolling down south flank
Nevado del Ruiz (Colombia): increasing seismic activity, strong degassing, eruption warning
Soufriere Hills (Montserrat): new vent observed in collapse scar

Karmysky (Kamchatka): occasional ash eruptions, thermal anomaly at summit crater
Kilauea (Hawai'i): active lava lake in Halema'uma'u crater, active lava flows in coastal plain
Pagan (Mariana Islands): steaming, occasional ash emissions
Puyehue-Cordón Caulle (Chile): small plumes up to 450 m above crater, incandescence at crater
Ranakah (Flores, Indonesia): small white plumes, decreasing seismicity, Alert Level lowered to 1
Santiaguito (Guatemala):ash explosions up to 6-900 m high, viscous lava flows on flanks of lava dome
Shiveluch (Kamchatka): continuing ash explosions up to 6-7 km altitude, viscous lava flow in 2010 crater
Tambora (Sumbawa, Indonesia):no activity in recent months, alert lowered back to normal
Tungurahua (Ecuador): explosions, ash fall

No major eruptions have occurred during the past week. Iceland, Santorini and Etna remain quiet. In Indonesia, Krakatau and Semeru are very active, Ijen remains at high alert. Soufrière Hills on Montserrat seems to be waking up, while Puyehue in Chile's eruption is fading. ... read all
