Lava flows as seen from the Bolivar Channel (image: Galapagos National Park)IGEPN recorded on 23 January increased seismic activity. This is due to nine hour long eruption (12 January) associated with earthquakes with magnitude > M.3 and small swarms.
On 21 January was recorded volcano-tectonic earthquake with magnitude M 4.2. Most of the earthquakes were shallow though occasionally some were located at depths greater than 10 km.
Eruptive fissures was opened that produced lava flows. The lava flows emitted on 12 January covered an approximate area of 3.8 square kilometers. No new thermal anomalies nor gas emissions have been recorded since the eruption.

Reykjanes (Reykjanes peninsula (SW Iceland)): IMO reports: An inflation has been detected since January 21st and is centred just west of Mt. Thorbjorn on Reykjanes peninsula. The inflation is unusually rapid, around 3-4 mm per day and has accumulated to 2 cm to date. It has been detected both on continuous GPS stations and in InSAR images. The inflation is most likely a sign of magma accumulation at a depth of just a few km. If magma accumulation is causing the inflation, the accumulation is very small, with the first volume estimate is around 1 million cubic meters. ... [more]
