Villarrica volcano (Central Chile): lava pond remains active
Mon, 4 Jan 2021, 10:37 10:37 AM | BY: MARTIN
The small lava pond remains active in the summit crater (image: @povi_cl/twitter)
No significant change in activity has occurred during the past weeks. The small lava pond in the summit crater, first observed in Nov last year, has remained essentially unchanged.
It's currently stable condition suggests that there is a delicate equilibrium between heat and magma supply and loss (through cooling and mild emissions during degassing). The volcano's lava pond can be seen in the attached image.
