SERNAGEOMIN reported that the activity of the volcano continues at moderately high low levels.
A white gas plume rose 250 m above the summit crater.
Surveillance cameras observed minor explosions on 27 January.
Incandescence continues to be observed from the crater during periods of clear weather. Lava fountaining from 4-5 m diameter vents was visible during 18-20 and 22 January.
Sulfur dioxide (SO2) emissions were 349-468 tonnes/day on 3 January.
Low-energy thermal anomalies were identified on 11, 13, and 14 January.
Alert level remains at 3 on a scale of 0-5.

Sernageomin has raised the alert level to Orange for the first time since 2015 due to escalating seismic tremor and a more turbulent lava lake (present in some form since late 2014). Although fairly unlikely, it is possible that a repeat of the March 2015 paroxysmal event could soon occur if there is a similar trend in activity. An exclusion zone of 2km is in force. ... read all
