Aso (central Kyushu, Japan): Volcanic Ash Advisory Center Tokyo (VAAC) issued the following report: ACTIVITY CONT. VA AT 20200316/1200Z FL060 EXTD E OBS VA DTG:16/1150Z

Canlaon (Central Philippines): DOST-PHIVOLCS recorded two volcanic earthquakes beneath Kanlaon volcano over the past 24 hours. There is continued long term edifice inflation which has been occurring since 2017, while in the short-term, the southeastern flanks recorded slow inflation of the lower slopes since May 2019 and pronounced inflation of the upper slopes in the end of January 2020. According to DOST-PHIVOLCS, these indicators suggest that hydrothermal or magmatic activity is occurring deep beneath the edifice. The current alert level is ALERT LEVEL 1
“Alert Level 1 (abnormal) status prevails over Kanlaon Volcano, which means that it is at an abnormal condition and has entered a period of unrest. The local government units and the public are strongly reminded that entry into the 4-kilometer radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) must be strictly prohibited due to the further possibilities of sudden and hazardous steam-driven or phreatic eruptions. Civil aviation authorities must also advise pilots to avoid flying close to the volcano’s summit as ejecta from any sudden phreatic eruption can be hazardous to aircraft. DOST-PHIVOLCS is closely monitoring Kanlaon Volcano’s activity and any new development will be relayed to all concerned.”

Taal (Luzon, Philippines): (16 Mar) PHIVOLCS recorded occasional minor emissions of steam plumes that rose 164 ft-328 ft (50 m-100 m) above the summit and drifted southwest.
Additionally recorded 13 volcano-tectonic earthquake associated with rock fracturing beneath the edifice of which 2 earthquakes with magnitude M 2.6 at 15:11 local time and M 2.4 at 21:08 local time were felt in area of Poblacion, Lemery, Banyaga and Agoncillo.
